Am I the only one in the world that thinks ‘White Christmas’ wasn’t much of a movie?
Yeah, it’s got charm and I watch it every year. It is tradition. But it is one of those movies that leaves me answering questions from my kids by saying “I dunno.â€
For example, what does the song “Choreography†have to do with Christmas, Dad?
I dunno.
Still, ‘White Christmas’ — as a song and a movie — endures. And well it should, I suppose. These days I look at it as a throwback to a simpler time. I was born in the 60s, it was made in the 50s. Close enough, I say. It reminds me of being a kid.
The news is still breaking about White Christmas — most recently, about that eye-popping dress Rosemary Clooney wore in the “Sisters†number. (What’s that got to do with Christmas, Dad? I dunno.)
Can you believe they found it on ebay?!! Something’s wrong about that. Granted, White Christmas was no Gone With The Wind but still it has a place in movie and Christmas movie history. You’d think someone there would have had a better sense of history given that they had the hit song for more than a decade before they made the movie.
In the course of learning all this we learn that Rosemary Clooney has her own museum. Hmm. Does Bing have his own museum?
I dunno.
