The owners and organizers of Celebrate Santa, one of the largest Santa-related gatherings on record, have deleted Facebook groups and altered event websites in an effort to hide evidence of corruption associated with the latest Celebrate Santa Festival held last month in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. According to DefendingSanta.com, Internet groups of professional Santas are up in arms over the lies and mismanagement of the event.
“Lunches for the event were supposed to be provided as part of the $450 registration fee.” said one attendee. “When we got there we received a $15 gift card to cover the food for three whole days.”
That, according to local media reports, was just the tip of the iceberg. Invoices from the 2009 festival have yet to be satisfied and nothing has been paid to cover the 2010 event.
Many in the Santa community are worried about how this event will further damage the image of Santa Claus. For four years the fighting, corruption and drama surrounding various Santa events has been so prolific that Hollywood is working on a movie based on it all called “The Santa Wars”.
