Ian Patrella, better known in Christmas lore as the kid brother Randy (Mommy’s little piggy) in A Christmas Story, is coming home to the house in Cleveland where the movie was made. During the months of July and August Patrella will be there to greet tourists who pay to visit the house-turned-museum. (No word on whether he will wear multiple layers of winter coats and say “I can’t put my arms down!”).
The film was not a box office success but has gained legendary status on video and like many Christmas-themed theater bombs is now considered a classic. (It’s a Wonderful Life was released in the dead of summer and was quickly forgotten until resurrected with thousands of televisions re-runs). The movie tells the story of a boy’s desire for a Red Rider BB Gun for Christmas who gets criticized for his wish by his teacher, his mother and by Santa himself. From the iconic scenes of Christmas in middle America in the 1940s to the creative cursing by “the old man”, A Christmas Story is one story that gets told and re-told each Christmas season.
Even if none of us know the name Ian Patrella.
