Defending Santa.com shares a new film clip out of Europe that portrays Santa Claus as a killer. Earlier this month, Defending Santa posted and condemned a preview for the movie A Christmas Tale, produced in Finland, the self-proclaimed home of Santa Claus. This new film will debut in the Netherlands and is titled “Sint”. This movie goes to the heart of the legend of Santa Claus by portraying Bishop Nicholas of Myra (who later came to be heralded as Saint Nicholas world-wide), who died on December 5th, as a murder victim himself who comes back every time there is a full moon on December 5th to exact revenge on unsuspecting children. The preview is getting a lot of play in the run up to Halloween on horror movie fan sites.
Defending Santa.com opines that if a sacred figure of any other faith system outside of Christianity were to be portrayed in such a gross and negligent fashion there would be a huge public outcry.
“Bishop Nicholas is at the very heart of the Santa legend,” said Jeff Westover, editor of DefendingSanta.com. “He was a real figure. His influence was so widespread, so well known and so beloved that his name graced more than 2000 churches in Europe. There are very few individuals within the history of Christianity who are as revered as Nicholas was. The movies they should be making are the fascinating tales that have been passed down for generations of his generosity and miracle-working. These fantasy portrayals just take us further and further away from the sweet stories of charity, good works and service that make Nicholas such a great role model.”
