Australia is suffering from a Santa shortage. Employment agency TSS Westar Recruitment needs to recruit 700 Santas nationally for shopping centers, airports and department stores – but so far are 250 Santas short..
“There is a perception that we are looking for older men but in reality we are looking for all kinds of men and of all different ages,” TSS Santa co-ordinator Danika Mullins said.
“Ideally, Santa would be someone who is passionate about kids and enjoys their company while also being patient, calm and with a good sense of humour.”
One man who has all these qualities is 72-year-old grandfather William Tuft of Pymble, who has been playing Santa for the past three years.
“For me it’s not about money at all, it’s about seeing the children and having their faces light up when they see this mystical figure Santa. It’s just wonderful.”
Would-be Santas need to be available from mid-November to Christmas Eve
